6 Steps to Silence Your Inner Critic and End Self Sabotage.

Have you allowed your inner critic to keep you from doing what you said you would do, or even daring to dream?

I get it! I’ve been there.  We often don’t go all in for what we want, or give up because we don’t believe we can actually have it, and we fear failure.

When it comes to going for more in life, you can expect to feel fear.  Four years ago when I decided to share my story in a book and film anthology, I literally felt sick with fear. As I sat there, I was bombarded with all kinds of fearful thoughts, but after a while I was able to muster up the courage to move through it. The whole experience turned out to be life changing in so many ways.

Fear loves to give us all kinds of reasons why we can’t do what we want to do. It loves to point out our past failures.  It loves to keep us focused on the past and not the future possibilities. It whispers softly saying “Who do you think you are”, You cant do that”, “What will people think or say?”. “What if………?

Does this sound familiar? The thing is, fear has only as much power as you give it. Your past does not and should not determine your future unless YOU allow it to do so.

When you experience fear, it’s not a sign to give up. It’s is a sign to stop, ask questions, and listen.

Allow your fear to express itself through journaling. Ask yourself, what am I actually afraid of? Listen with friendly curiosity.

Whatever comes up ask yourself, Is this a real or personal danger? Or is it more about my desire to step into the unknown, to do something different, to be different?

Ask yourself can I do it anyway? Make a list of reasons you want what you want.  Strengthen your spiritual connection, and have the courage to move forward.

Taking the step forward is an act of faith. Faith in your ability to achieve what you want. When you act in faith, your higher power acts by putting things in place to move you closer to your vision. Have you ever had this experience?

Have the courage to go for it, and to explore possibility.

To move from fear to possibility, consider these steps:

1. Notice how you feel about what it is you want. Do you feel fear? Do you feel anxiety? Not good enough? Frustration?

2. Imagine what it would be like to feel the opposite of what you are feeling? Imagine feeling courageous instead of fearful. Imagine feeling fully capable instead of not good enough. Rather than frustration you feel at ease and in flow.

3. Think about something that you have already accomplished. Remember how you felt.

Ask yourself, If I felt really confident, or if I knew I wouldn’t fail, what action would I take towards my desires? List your options.

When you take the time to do this, you begin to see all of the possibilities and your potential.
